January 26, 2020 - dinner

For January 26, 2020 we will be preparing 2 giant lasagna pans of shepherds pie. So far we have not yet come up with a vegetarian option (maybe a veggie lasagna?).

Jane - do we need to add ingredients for the mashed potatoes to go on top of the meat (i.e. butter, milk)?

Ingredients for shepherds pie:

  1. 4 lbs of lean ground beef - 1
  2. medium onion - 4
  3. 3 lbs of carrots - 1
  4. 750 gm - 1 kg frozen peas - 1
  5. 5 lbs of potatoes - 1
  6. spices and gravy 'fixings' 

Tasks:


  1. dice all 4 onions
  2. brown ground beef with diced onions
  3. make gravy and mix in
  4. peel and grate carrots
  5. add carrots and peas to beef and gravy mix and cook briefly
  6. prepare pans (grease)
  7. divide meat mixture into two pans
  8. peel, cut and boil potatoes
  9. mash potatoes and add seasonings
  10. put potatoes on top of meat

Side Dishes

We are going to prepare a big, yummy, colourful salad to accompany the shepherd's pie. Here are the ingredients:


  1. heads of lettuce - 6 (or packaged equivalent)
  2. carrots - 3 lbs 
  3. radish bunch - 3
  4. bell peppers - 4 or 5
  5. loaf of garlic bread - 5 
  6. salad dressing 475 ml bottle - 5-6 assorted kinds

Tasks


  1. rinse, spin and shred lettuce
  2. peel, wash and grate carrots
  3. wash, top and tail and slice radishes
  4. wash, seed and slice peppers
  5. combine in two giant lasagna pans

  1. 4 lbs of extra lean ground beef
  2. 4 medium onions
  3. 1 kg frozen peas
  4. 5 lbs of potatoes
  5. gravy mix/spices for flavouring ground beef
  6. 6 heads of lettuce (or package equivalent)
  7. 8 lbs of carrots
  8. 3 bunches of radishes
  9. 4 or 5 bell peppers (red, orange, yellow)
  10. 475 ml bottle of salad dressing - 5 or 6 different kinds
